Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

This show leaned more towards garage than psych for a little while, compliments of lots of new goodies to play - Adelaide's The Systemaddicts kicked things off with their latest album, "Broken Hearted on the Nullarbor", followed by a couple of new releases from State Records, by The Embrooks (UK) and The Missing Souls (France), and squeezed in the middle was a track from Juliette Seizure and the Tremor Dolls debut long-player, "Chewing Out Your Rhythm on My Bubblegum." Somehow I managed to play THREE Tyrnaround tracks, twice from their classic 12" EP, as well as a cover of the title-track, "Colour Your Mind" by Vibravoid! And I musn't forget a selection from Sidewalk Society's new 4-track 7" EP, which is one of Fruits De Mer Records latest crop of releases - with more to be featured next week. Some "soon-to-be" releases from Heaters, Elkhorn and Drakkar Nowhere rounded out the show: luckily this entry didn't take as long to put together as the last one! Enjoy!

Technicolour Dreaming

South Australia has been experiencing some horrible weather over the past week, with gale force winds, torrential rain, and even snow in some places! Then early Tuesday morning, a violent storm ripped through town, wreaking havoc and taking out power throughout most of the Adelaide Hills.

A bleary-eyed Cat got up at the crack of dawn in the freezing cold (no heating) to finish off programming Technicolour Dreaming - luckily the computer was fully charged - got ready for the bus trip into Adelaide (no hot coffee, so brain totally fogged), dreading the walk down the road, and having visions of umbrellas blowing inside out, tumbling along.
And then the fateful phone call - the weather gods had decreed that a combination of toppled trees and fallen power lines over the roads meant the bus couldn't get through, leaving me stranded (and cold, and even more badly needing a coffee) at home.

So no radio show this week - but at least I'm already prepared for the 19th of July! And I'll also be giving away a ticket to Wintersteady in the first half-hour of Technicolour Dreaming, so tune in!
