Obscured By...

Sadly another RIP for this week's Obscured By... hosted by all three dots.  Jon Lord, ex-Deep Purple etc passed away the previous day, so a small selection of music from a few decades of his career was featured.   Whether rock musicians actually want to rest "in peace" or would rather crank the amp up to 11 is another matter, however.  We also played some cardboard postcard records promoting the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, some very obscure bands from a mid-60s "battle of the bands" and a few favourites such as Jacques DuTronc, Dave Davies and Nina Hagen.  Australian rarities included an early 90s re-recorded Easybeats track by Stevie Wright and a version of Friday on My Mind by Elliot Goblet best described as "unique".  We present the whole playlist here for your astonishment...

Technicolour Dreaming

This show featured a varied contingent of sounds, mostly, it transpired, from the United States (Beachwood Sparks, Espers and Sleepy Sun amongst others), including the eagerly anticipated recent offering from Asteroid No.4, which had arrived in our letterbox only hours before! The rest of the world wasn’t left out though... we had the Keys from Wales, Canada was represented by the High Dials, and little old Adelaide provided both the latest song from All The Leaves Have Fallen and a 60’s psych classic from the James Taylor Move; there was, of course, much more music before we finished with this week’s track from Eno, our current “Artiste of the Month”.....

Obscured By...

An all-vinyl single version of the programme this week, to rekindle all three "dots"' memories of the joys of such a show, with all the snap, crackle, different playing speeds and record sizes that it entails.  Everything from a 5-inch Jona Lewie single to a rare XTC 12" EP - rare Australian singles by The Numbers (before this band became The Riptides)  and a Leonard Teale promotional 45 - obscure UK punk by the Martian Schoolgirls and The Skids - Plastic Bertrand with something resembling Krautrock disco - near forgotten but very worthwhile songs by the likes of Fischer-Z and Classix Nouveaux - and plenty more.   The full playlist of vinyl delights is as follows...
