Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

The Scientists are in Adelaide this week so we thought we’d feature one of their classic songs, albeit one originally released as a single b-side, and this kind of set the tone for the rest of the show. Yes there were some recent releases, including songs from Pinkunoizu, the Luck of Eden Hall and Temples and even pre-releases from the Barbarellatones and the Dandelion Seeds, but the bulk of rest were from all over the place, with tracks from artists such as Chad & Jeremy, John Foxx, nick nicely, the Good, the Bad & the Queen, This Mortal Coil and the Frantics, with Mordecai Smyth finishing off on a suitably British psych-pop note.....
..... so here is the playlist, with some visuals to divert.....

Technicolour Dreaming

This week’s edition was bookended with tracks by Welsh band Soft Hearted Scientists, who have rapidly wormed their way into our “fave band list” since we discovered their 2013  album “False Lights” and then began working our way through their back-catalogue. Then there were our “just-arrived-in-the-mail” features, the first of which, “The Drop” LP by Denmark’s Pinkunoizu, came in a very cool gatefold sleeve and has barely been off the turntable all week. Though it was released late last year and has taken us a while to get our own copy, we found it to be a brilliant slice of modern psychedelia and well worth the wait – thoroughly recommended! The other new arrival was the debut album from Doug Tuttle, formerly of Cat & Brat faves, MMOSS, whose two albums have frequently reverberated around our house over the past year or so. Now recording under his own name this album finds him further refining his idiosyncratic take on psychedelic music, with a textured 60’s pop feel more evident than in the past. Catchy yet woozy with lots of his trademark reverb and effects, it, like the afore-mentioned Pinkunoizu, keeps insinuating itself into your mind more with each hearing –we’ll definitely be playing more tracks from both albums for you in coming weeks! Also featured were tracks from the Citradels, Slingshot Dragster and Bronco Bullfrog, new mp3s from both the Red Plastic Buddha and the Luck of Eden Hall plus cuts from Schnauser, Dark Ocean Colors, the High Learys and many more.....
..... so here is the playlist with attendant visuals.....
