Rather
than a band, we had Dutch solo performer Jacco Gardner
as our “Artiste of the Week” in this edition
of Technicolour Dreaming. Regular listeners will be aware that we have featured
his music quite frequently since we first heard his “Clear
the Air” single early last year, the song later appearing on his excellent
debut album “Cabinet of Curiosities”. Whilst
clearly in thrall to 60’s psychedelic pop, Jacco
has managed to create his own inspired take on the genre, letting the strength
of his song writing shine through – like his predecessors, he sure knows how to
write a catchy pop song with twists and unexpected turns a-plenty. Wonderful
music.... and his ever-growing renown is well-deserved – hopefully he’ll bring
his band on tour to Australia soon! Also featured again this week was the UK
record label Fruits de Mer, including tracks
by FdM stalwarts such as Spain’s excellent Stay and Welsh outfit Schnauser
amongst others, the two mentioned above taken from the latest promo
sampler “Friends of the Fish vol. 1” which
reminds us of the diversity of the label’s output and which we’ll certainly be
plundering over coming months – great stuff! Also played this week were new tracks
from Espectrostatic, Sky
Picnic and Dodson & Fogg [featuring
the Young Ones’ Nigel
Planer] plus a few ‘blasts from
the past’ by the likes of the
Sorrows, Holland’s After Tea, the United States of America and Peru’s We All Together doing a Badfinger
cover, taken from their sole 1972 LP.
There
was much more of course, as always, so until next week.....
..... here is the playlist with some associated clips, plus a
short film of the famous 1964 LSD debate at MiT featuring Dr Timothy Leary.... Enjoy!
