After
hearing, shortly before going
to air, the news about Adelaide singer Darryl Cotton‘s cancer diagnosis, we just had to play a favourite song
from his old band, the Zoot, at the conclusion of our selection of Australian music which regularly opens our show. Also included in
that set was the opening track of Normie Rowe’s debut album in 1965, the debut single
from the Black Diamonds, and a rare EP cut by
Billy Thorpe& the Aztecs from 1966. From
there, we ventured far and wide, with rarities
by Slowdive,
Throbbing Gristle and New Zealand’s Dizzy
Limits, plus a slew of 7” singles from numerous locales, such as I Fantoms from Italy, the Beavers from Japan, Hex from the USA and the
Matadors from Czechoslovakia, as well as some
early Bowie
in his David Jones & the Lower Third incarnation plus Marc
Bolan with a later John’s Children track from the UK, before finishing with some Harmonia musik from
Germany ... all brought to you this week by
your two DOTS,
the Cat & the Brat.....
