Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

This week the Cat & the Brat were pleased to welcome Douglas P. from Death In June into the 3D Radio studios as both an interviewee and a guest programmer – we realised that it has been almost 3 years since he last joined us on the show, so we had lots to talk about. He has a new album, The Snow Bunker Tapes, and has only fairly recently returned from an extended tour of Europe so these were the main focus of the interview, but as always, we ventured far and wide off-topic which made for a very interesting, and often humorous, two hour show... and the music? Well, the phrase of the afternoon was definitely ‘Totenpop’ because, as Douglas said, how ‘neo’ can ‘neo-folk’ be after more than 20 years, so a new name was needed and this was his suggestion! So, apart from the tracks we played from his new album, Douglas brought in a number of CDs by bands that had played with him during the tour and which he wanted to expose to Adelaide audiences, including Arnica, Of The Wand And The Moon, Vurgart and the Enchanted Wood, plus albums that had ‘soundtracked’ his life in-between shows and during the production of the new album, by the likes of John Cale, the Pet Shop Boys and Deep Sea Arcade as well as the new David Bowie album. A very enjoyable time was had by all and hopefully it won’t be another three years until we talk to Douglas again on-air! Of course we also slipped in a few of our faves such as Les Liminanas and Django Django and indeed ended the show with a track from DeWolff who, fingers crossed, will be speaking to us on the phone next week before they head homewards after their current Australian tour, so until then.....
