Douglas P. of Death In June fame joined us again as guest programmer this week, on the eve of his North American tour which begins shortly in Mexico [details here], playing some tracks from his recent “Live In Wein” double album. As always he entertained us with anecdotes and stories including the merits of the Dave Clark 5’s contribution to “the British Invasion” and their 1965 movie “Catch Us If You Can”, which we all agreed was an unjustly under-rated 60’s classic! He also brought in music for us to play by artists who have joined him on his various overseas tours, including Ostara, Spitting At Pigeons and Spiritual  Front. Also this week we played a couple of previews from some of the forthcoming album releases by the UK’s wonderful Fruits de Mer Records vinyl-only label – one from Sweden’s Tor-Peders and another by UK stalwarts Astralasia - you can get more details at their website. Add some Byrds, Clinic, Antoine, a mix of new and old psychedelia and more..... and that was the show for another week! Technicolour Dreaming

Regular listeners will be aware of our fondness for rarities, and this week we had a couple of brilliant examples. Firstly, we played from the new Orgone Box LP, a re-issue of Rick Corcoran’s classic 2001 album which includes remixes, re-recordings and an extra track from a 1996 Japanese-only EP, which was of course the song we played. We followed that with a lost Curt Boettcher-produced single from 1967, by our favourite ex-Byrd Gene Clark, which was unreleased at the time but finally issued by the fine people at Sundazed in 2008. Finally, towards the end of the show, we featured a track by Thomas Edisun’s Electric Light Bulb Band from their never-released 1967 pop-psych masterpiece, “The Red Day Album”, which was issued by Gear Fab records earlier this year. Then there were tracks by Eternal Tapestry, Holy Wave, the Left Banke, the Moles and many more, before finishing with UK outfit, the Sunchymes, as well as a song by Death In June, as a prelude to our forthcoming interview with Douglas P. next week.....

Technicolour Dreaming

We began this week’s show with some psych-pop, old and new, by such luminaries as the Twilights, Jacco Gardner and Dungen, then plunged into the late 70’s/early 80’s UK electronic scene, exemplified by artists such as John Foxx and Death In June, before heading into orbit with the b-side of the Space Agency’s new single. We had tracks from Hookworms and Baptism of Uzi, and then plunged back in a psychedelic haze with the Sky Falling and the Seeds, plus tracks from the debut Byzantines E.P. We paid tribute to the late Bill Putt of Spectrum fame and also to ‘lost’ 60’s song-writer legend Tandyn Almer, who passed away earlier this year just as a retrospective of his work was being released, before ending with another track from the excellent new Sonny & the Sunsets LP. That was Technicolour Dreaming with the Cat & the Brat on 3D Radio for another week.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Beginning with a track from the latest LP by Germany’s Vibravoid, the Cat & the Brat once again this week weaved a tenuous path through the labyrinths of their collective archives of favourite tunes, to bring you an assortment of sounds by bands as diverse as the Long Ryders, Death In June, Amon Düül, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Plasticland and the brilliant Espers, plus solo efforts from the likes of Cate Le Bon, Eric Ghardin and Chris Bell, before finishing on a ‘1-2 knockout’ with the Seeds and the Sufis. We confess to rather long and verbose introductions to a couple of our latest acquisitions, namely the wonderful second album from the UK’s Beaulieu Porch and the debut by young Dutch psychstar Jacco Gardner – both artists have rapidly won a high spot in our ‘all-time fave’ list!
