Technicolour Dreaming

We always play bands from around the world but this week a large percentage of the music came from Australia, our home turf, yet it wasn’t planned – it just happened that way, and even included a brilliant new track from local Adelaide band Glass Skies, a taster from their forthcoming EP. There were tracks from new bands such as Tasmania’s Violet Swells and the Babe Rainbow who hail from Brisbane, plus some old favourites such as the Laurels, the Lovetones, Black Cab and the Citradels. Moving out into the wider world, we heard from Sweden’s Tor-Peders, Japan’s Kikagaku Moyo, Wales’ Crystal Jacqueline and Finland’s Octopus Syng, as well as other current favourites such as the Luck of Eden Hall, les Limiñanas and Holy Wave plus lots more. All in all, another burst of Technicolour Dreaming with the Cat & the Brat on Adelaide’s 3D Radio, streaming live to the world.....

Technicolour Dreaming

  

It was a case of “more vinyl, more vinyl” on this week’s show, playing 7” singles, new and old, from the likes of the Hidden Masters, Wooden Shjips, the Haunted, Suede and the Spikes and selections from ‘rarities’ compilations such as the double LPs “Forge Your Own Chains” and “Fairytales Can Come True”, plus album and EP tracks by the Stomachmouths, Blue Ruin, the Gootch Palms, Tyrannosaurus Rex and others. As tribute to Australian legend  Wendy Saddington who sadly passed away last week, we played her 1971 single ‘Looking Through a Window’ and for one of our favourite novelists, the late Iain M. Banks, we played a Sonny & the Sunsets song about a doomed space-robot love affair! Throw in the debut demo by Olly Holmes, some new Mikal Cronin music and a few favourite CDs, and there it was... another edition of Technicolour Dreaming, brought to you by the Cat & the Brat.....

Technicolour Dreaming

 We began the show this week with a track from DeWolff who are currently touring Australia, though sadly they are not coming to Adelaide.  But if you’re in the eastern states go to see them, as reports say their live show is brilliant. From there we again ventured into the psychedelic and the obscure (and the not-so-obscure) with tracks from Germany’s Sula Bassana, Italy’s the Strange Flowers, Japan’s the Plastics and England’s Toy plus some Nico, Dave Davies and Espers as well as a track from the wonderfully named Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell’s debut LP, which was named as Shindig! magazine’s 2012 “Album of the Year”. There were some psych/folk variations from Espers and from the extremely rare album by Englishman Mark Fry, recorded in Italy in 1972, as well as some sheer poetry from John Cooper Clarke. We finished with another in our series of ‘suites’, this time from the self-titled 1968 LP by the United States of America, but prior to that we played a ‘taster’ [and have included a clip] from the soon-to-be-released album, “the Snow Bunker Tapes” by Death in June, as a means of announcing that Douglas P. will be our guest in the studio next week, the 19^th of March, talking about the new album and his recent tour, as well as guest-DJing with us – so tune in again next week!
