Technicolour Dreaming

We had a guest in the studio with us this week ... Vic from Walking Bird Records came in to give us a sneak preview of their latest release, the album “Look!” by Adelaide’s own Tom Redwood, recorded in Vic’s Walking Bird studio and featuring members of Vic’s own band, Vic Conrad & the First Third on some of the songs. Though basically ‘singer/song-writer’ in genre, there are more electric ‘acid-folk’ and ‘soft-psych’ elements in some of the songs, which we found appropriate for Technicolour Dreaming – definitely worth checking out! Our “Band of the Week” fetured UK band the Sunchymes, whom regular listeners will recognise as long-time favourites on this show. Aaron from the band has assured us that a new album is nearing completion and we’re hoping that this will be the one that finally gets them the recognition they richly deserve – a very talented band! There were also tracks from Ty Segall, Grand Rapids, Wellwater Conspiracy and Singapore Sling plus a single from the wonderfully-named Dr Cosmo’s Tape Lab and much more.....

Technicolour Dreaming

We always play bands from around the world but this week a large percentage of the music came from Australia, our home turf, yet it wasn’t planned – it just happened that way, and even included a brilliant new track from local Adelaide band Glass Skies, a taster from their forthcoming EP. There were tracks from new bands such as Tasmania’s Violet Swells and the Babe Rainbow who hail from Brisbane, plus some old favourites such as the Laurels, the Lovetones, Black Cab and the Citradels. Moving out into the wider world, we heard from Sweden’s Tor-Peders, Japan’s Kikagaku Moyo, Wales’ Crystal Jacqueline and Finland’s Octopus Syng, as well as other current favourites such as the Luck of Eden Hall, les Limiñanas and Holy Wave plus lots more. All in all, another burst of Technicolour Dreaming with the Cat & the Brat on Adelaide’s 3D Radio, streaming live to the world.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Another assortment of the varied soundscape of psychedelia and associated oddities brought to you once again by the Cat and the Brat on Adelaide’s eclectic 3D Radio 93.7 “fmmmmm” [as we like to say!] There were new songs from Crystal Jacqueline & the Honey Pot and Bronco Bullfrog (courtesy of Keith at the wonderfully idiosyncratic Fruits de Mer label), as well as Temples, Charlie Boyer & the Voyeurs, Graham Day & the Forefathers (thank you Mole from State Records!), Toy and les Limiñanas from their respective recent releases, plus a smattering of tracks taken from various compilations by the likes of Melbourne’s Dead Parties, Billy Nichols, the Tuneful Trolley and My Bloody Valentine and a whole bunch of others from various locales and eras – all in all, yet another episode of Technicolour Dreaming to enjoy, so until next week.....

Technicolour Dreaming

This week it was the Cat... without her Brat... presenting Technicolour Dreaming! The show featured some new releases, including ones from local Adelaide bands such as Friends and D.D.Divine & Psycho Green, and a track from the new “Rats, Thieves & Liars” EP by Ride Into The Sun... plus, from the US and the UK, songs from the new Thee Oh Sees and the Horrors albums, respectively. Naturally, there was a smattering of older faves ranging from the 60’s sounds of Toni McCann and the Human Expression, to local 80’s electro-punk outfit, Nuvo Bloc, through to the Black Angels, Joy Zipper and Russia’s Messer Chups, and finishing with the final spin of the Laurels as the current “Album of the Month”... hmmm, what will be the August selection?
