As you can see from the playlist below, I have finally received my copy of the "Astonishing Sound Show Stories Volume 2" compilation. Most of the bands are so unknown and obscure that I couldn't find any clips for the songs I played, but there's some great music on this comp, so if you want to get a copy, you'd better get your skates on, as there's under 50 copies left. I've included the quite frankly, strange and bizarre, but entertaining promo videos for this release below. And speaking of strange, I had to include the extremely groovy Brigitte Bardot clip for "Contact", which pretty unusual, even by 1967 standards. Enjoy!

Technicolour Dreaming

Perusing the ‘New Releases’  section of the Three D library, we discovered the new Black Angels’ album had arrived – and with only a few weeks until the annual ‘Austin Psych Fest’, of which they are the primary organisers, we naturally felt we should give it an airing, plus play a couple of the other bands of similar ilk such as Permanent Clear Light and Ringo Deathstarr, as well as Adelaide’s own Ride Into The Sun, spinning the b-side of their new single, which is being launched this week in Adelaide. From there it was a mixture of newer music from the likes of Cate le Bon, Decoys and Los Straightjackets and a fair smattering of 60’s magic by bands such as the Strawberry Alarm Clock, July and the Avengers. We also played a cool 1967 single by Mark Radice which caught our attention recently. Though only 10 years old, he wrote, performed and produced it himself – later in life he went on to tour with Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Johnny Mathis and many others before finding fame as ‘Elmo’ on TV’s ‘Sesame Street’, thus going from child entertainer to children’s entertainer! We then spun some more UK and European psych singles before featuring a classic piece by one of our favourite bands of the 1970’s, the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, to wrap up the show.... all brought to you by the Cat and Brat on Adelaide’s 3D Radio......

In the absence of the Brat, the show was presented this week by the Cat and the... Bryan. There were bands from various periods of yesteryear, such as the Purple Hearts, the Revillos and Buffalo Springfield, music from this century by the likes of Joy Zipper [when are they doing a new album? ] and Sun Shepherd and including local bands such as the Molting Vultures, Kamikaze and All The Leaves Have Fallen, plus a few favourites from whenever/wherever like Shearwater, Shower Scene From Psycho and the Monkees... and finishing with a track from the current “Album of the Month” by DieselWitch [who are one of the bands playing at this weekend’s surf festival on Kangaroo Island!]...

Technicolour Dreaming

This week it was the Cat... without her Brat... presenting Technicolour Dreaming! The show featured some new releases, including ones from local Adelaide bands such as Friends and D.D.Divine & Psycho Green, and a track from the new “Rats, Thieves & Liars” EP by Ride Into The Sun... plus, from the US and the UK, songs from the new Thee Oh Sees and the Horrors albums, respectively. Naturally, there was a smattering of older faves ranging from the 60’s sounds of Toni McCann and the Human Expression, to local 80’s electro-punk outfit, Nuvo Bloc, through to the Black Angels, Joy Zipper and Russia’s Messer Chups, and finishing with the final spin of the Laurels as the current “Album of the Month”... hmmm, what will be the August selection?
