Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

On this last day of winter, the Cat & the Brat played an all-Australian show, with the exception of four of our favourite ‘overseas’ bands, which of course meant playing some Velvet Underground... how could we not! The bulk of the show though, featured current bands such as Adelaide’s own Like Leaves and brillig, Melbourne’s exciting Frowning Clouds and Sydney’s Black Cab, then travelled back to the 80’s, including 2 bands with new ‘best of’/rarities albums, the Lighthouse Keepers and the Ups and Downs, plus a few singles from the likes of the Church and Lizard Train. And we bade farewell to the Sand Pebbles in their final spin as ‘Album of the Month’......
.....so without further ado, here is the full playlist.....

Obscured By...

Peter Brat and Michael Hunter were the two ‘DOTS’ in the studio presenting this week’s episode of ‘Obscured by...’, and were joined by phone for a lengthy chat by Craig Collinge, drummer in the Librettos, the Playboys, Procession, Manfred Mann Chapter 111, World War Three, plus lots more, even including a brief stay in Fleetwood Mac in 1973-74, and continuing through to his current ‘Evolution2Revolution’ project.... so we had LOTS to talk about! Of course there was a lot more music played... including a track from Billy Joel’s band Attila (nominated as the ‘worst record ever’ in AllMusic.com, though personally we are sure there are far worse!), a song from the first album by Bjork (aged 14) and a ‘live’ track from reformed local 60’s band, 5 Sided Circle, at their gig last Sunday... can’t get more immediate than that!

Technicolour Dreaming

It was RADIOTHON time here on Adelaide’s 3D Radio this week, so the Cat and the Brat played lots of our (and we hope, your) favourite tracks while dealing with the phonecalls from subscribers-to-be and doing special ‘giveaways’... yes, it was chaotic, but also FUN! And we thank all of you who have subscribed (or intend to subscribe) to this wonderful all-volunteer community radio station to help keep us going to air (and streaming on the ‘net!) for the coming year... our licence is for promoting independent and progressive music from all genres and eras, particularly local and Australian. Obscured By...

Well, it’s RADIOTHON time again, where you (the listeners) can do your bit to keep us on-air and playing all this fine, but largely forgotten or  ignored, music. Whether you live here in Adelaide or  in Addis Ababa, just go to www.threedradio.com and subscribe to this very unique all-volunteer music radio station. We come to you in various formats... locally on the fm band at 93.7, on digital and streaming on the internet... so tune in, and if you like what you hear, subscribe! This week’s ‘DOTS’ were Michael Hunter & Peter Brat and we played our favourite mix of rarities and obscurities, ranging from Adelaide outfits like the Twilights and Smokestack Lightning, to Tiny Tim, the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and the Dave Clark 5 (whose music is strangely VERY hard to get hold of). We also featured two of Australia’s greatest vocalists, Wendy Saddington (from her new CD reissue with lots of bonus stuff!) and Lynne Randell (from an American-release-only single). We raided the T sections of 3D Radio’s 70,000-plus CD and vinyl library for our ’letter of the week random-pick’ segment, again finding some forgotten gems in the process! And we finished with a song from the brilliant Korean guitarist, Shin Joong Hyun, who made great psych rock music and was persecuted by an authoritarian government in a similar way to America’s treatment of Roky Erikson, but with a better outcome... he’s one of only about half a dozen guitarists to have a ‘signature’ guitar made by Fender!... check him out on the ‘net!
