Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Obscured By...

The Cat & the Brat were the ‘DOTS’ curating this week’s show, which ranged from the 70’s UK bubblegum pop of 12-year-old Ricky Wilde (yep, Marty’s son/Kim’s brother) and the sitar-laden sounds of 90’s US psych-sters the Surprise Symphony, to a selection of UK goth which included ex-Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy’s surprise 1990 US hit single, some new Malaysian punk rock and the very last song of Marc Bolan’s final UK tour prior to his death in 1977. And of course there was our regular batch of Australian rarities, which included a live version of a yummy bubblegum classic by James Reyne, found on a 90’s TV show! Obscured By...

After hearing, shortly before going to air, the news about Adelaide singer Darryl Cotton‘s cancer diagnosis, we just had to play a favourite song from his old band, the Zoot, at the conclusion of our selection of Australian music which regularly opens our show. Also included in that set was the opening track of Normie Rowe’s debut album in 1965, the debut single from the Black Diamonds, and a rare EP cut by Billy Thorpe& the Aztecs from 1966. From there, we ventured far and wide, with rarities by Slowdive, Throbbing Gristle and New Zealand’s Dizzy Limits, plus a slew of 7” singles from numerous locales, such as I Fantoms from Italy, the Beavers from Japan, Hex from the USA and the Matadors from Czechoslovakia, as well as some early Bowie in his David Jones & the Lower Third incarnation plus Marc Bolan with a later John’s Children track from the UK, before finishing with some Harmonia musik from Germany ... all brought to you this week by your two DOTS, the Cat & the Brat.....
