Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Obscured By...

We began this week with a tribute to Vince Lovegrove, who was killed in a road accident last weekend... Vince was a well-respected and much-liked veteran of Australian rock’n’roll, with a long career that incorporated solo work and playing in bands such as the Valentines and, more recently, Mongrels of Passion, plus working as a journalist, television presenter and producer, band manager and AIDS awareness pioneer... and the man who introduced Bon Scott to AC/DC! From there we moved onto a bunch of songs from the extensive Aztec Music re-issue catalogue, with the sad news that the company has gone into receivership, due to large debts owed them by overseas distributers... yet another victim of rapacious multinational capitalism. As virtually the only large re-issue organisation in Australia, our rich musical heritage is once again in danger of being consigned back to the obscurity from which they, and several smaller companies, have bravely attempted to rescue it. **Buy an Aztec Music reissue or 2 today, to help them out! ** Then it was on to another of our “celebration of the compilation” selections... this time a great 2005 single-disc collection from Paris, France called “Gloria: International Garage Rock Club!” from which we played, amongst others, Baby Woodrose and the Dirtbombs. Throw in some wild cover versions by the likes of Pere Ubu and Jim Keays, some Psychedelia, new and old, then finish with a Moog classic and there it is – another “Obscured by...”, brought to you by the 3 DOTS, Michael, Megan & Peter.....

Obscured By..

Original 60s psychedelic rock taking in classical, country and Merseybeat elements, followed by modern gypsy thrashDavid Bowie sings The Beatles - or does he?   Endearingly awful song poems (lyrics written by amateurs and put to music on a disc for a fee by bored session musos), preceded by 80s Japanese electronica.   60s Adelaide beat.  60s beat from elsewhere.  Remembering the 5th anniversary of Billy Thorpe's passing.  Plenty more.  It all makes perfect sense, at least in the Obscured By... universe - hosted this week by Michael Hunter.
