Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Obscured By..

Original 60s psychedelic rock taking in classical, country and Merseybeat elements, followed by modern gypsy thrashDavid Bowie sings The Beatles - or does he?   Endearingly awful song poems (lyrics written by amateurs and put to music on a disc for a fee by bored session musos), preceded by 80s Japanese electronica.   60s Adelaide beat.  60s beat from elsewhere.  Remembering the 5th anniversary of Billy Thorpe's passing.  Plenty more.  It all makes perfect sense, at least in the Obscured By... universe - hosted this week by Michael Hunter.

Obscured By...

The main highlight of this particular Obscured By... was a chat and a couple of live to air songs by Yours Truly (Ken Stewart & David Robinson) - but a solo Michael Hunter also presented a brand new recording by the reformed 1960s Aztecs, a track by Mayfield's Mule featuring Andy Scott on guitar (pre-The Sweet) from an album only released in Uruguay, an unreleased Roaring Jack demo, Flaming Lips covering Radiohead as part of an exploration of rarities from the F section of the Three D library, some UK 60s psych and much more.   (Was that the longest sentence ever?)  And there was much rejoicing.

Technicolour Dreaming - 27th April 2011

The Cat & the Brat took the name ‘Technicolour Dreaming’ in tribute to the legendary London ‘musical happening’ at Alexandria Palace, “the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream”, on April 29th 1967... therefore it seemed appropriate in the week of its 44th anniversary to play one of the songs featuring the name... hence the track by Status Quo. We also played a bunch of 60’s Australian singles plus some modern psych successors such as Les Annees, the Asteroid Belt, Brightblack Morning Light and the now-defunct Mona Lisa Overdrive; plus, of course, ‘the Monkees song of the week’ and the final showing of the April ‘Album of the Month’ by Moon Duo... hmmmm, wonder what will be May’s?
