technicolour dreaming

Another show, another Dream... this week courtesy of 3D Radio compadre Bryan! Beginning with a blast of the psychedelic from the Asteroid Belt through some 80’s Melbourne psychobilly from the Corpse Grinders onto the black leather glam of classic Suzi Quatro and the whirling acid folk of Circulus, he played a mass of good music from all over, including a number of songs from various Adelaide bands and performers such as Kamikaze, Van Cleef and the mandolin strum of Madeline Hudson plus others from around the world, such as the Apricot from Norway, the UK’s Terry Edwards and Dark Ocean Colors from the USA, before finishing with the Zoot, our current “Band of the Month”... a great show. Technicolour Dreaming

This week as always, we played a diverse bunch of records, ranging from the 60’s pop of Nancy Sinatra, the Twilights and Jacques Dutronc through to new albums from Mikal Cronin, Dark Ocean Colors and Norway’s the Apricot, plus a garage/psych side-project by Robert Schneider of Apples In Stereo called Thee American Revolution, as well as some Australian sounds from, amongst others, the Riptides, the Molting Vultures, Asteroid Belt and Space Party. We went electronic with John Foxx before ending the show with the final appearance as “Band of the Month” by California’s the Barbarellatones... all brought to you, of course, by the Cat and the Brat.....

Technicolour Dreaming

A solo Peter Brat began this first edition of Technicolour Dreaming for 2012 with a rousing rama-lama from the MC5 to set the tone for the rest of the show, and indeed the year! There were tracks from current Australian bands such as the Frowning Clouds, Belles Will Ring and Midnight Woolf, plus locals, the Asteroid Belt, as well as sides by their 60’s predecessors such as Oak Apple Day and Normie Rowe, plus Adelaide groovers, the Masters Apprentices, the Hergs and Glass Web [a member of whom turned up almost a decade later as bassist in the Brats!] From the 60’s we also heard the Dave Clark 5, the Perpetuated Spirits of Turpentine and Love, as well as one of my fave singles from the Seeds, plus a bunch of new bands like the Hoa Hoas, Moon Duo and the sublime Espers, before finishing with our latest ‘Band of the Month’, San Francisco’s Thee Oh Sees, who will be returning to play here in Adelaide at ‘Jive’ on the 21^st of January as part of their Australian tour... go check ‘em out, ‘cos they are a blindingly good live act! Technicolour Dreaming

Technicolour Dreaming - 27th April 2011

The Cat & the Brat took the name ‘Technicolour Dreaming’ in tribute to the legendary London ‘musical happening’ at Alexandria Palace, “the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream”, on April 29^th 1967... therefore it seemed appropriate in the week of its 44^th anniversary to play one of the songs featuring the name... hence the track by Status Quo. We also played a bunch of 60’s Australian singles plus some modern psych successors such as Les Annees, the Asteroid Belt, Brightblack Morning Light and the now-defunct Mona Lisa Overdrive; plus, of course, ‘the Monkees song of the week’ and the final showing of the April ‘Album of the Month’ by Moon Duo... hmmmm, wonder what will be May’s?
