Technicolour Dreaming

The Cat & the Brat were back in the studio again after a short break (and a big thank you to heather, a true 3D Radio icon, for filling-in last week under difficult circumstances – and of course still presenting a psychedelightful programme nonetheless!) with a special ‘birthday’ edition of Technicolour Dreaming, so we just played favourites, new and old, to celebrate! Needless to say, we only made a small dent in the list of afore-mentioned ‘favourites’, but it was fine to hear such classics as the Electric Prunes ‘Too much to Dream...’, the Stranglers ‘Nuclear Device’ and the Monkees ‘Porpoise Song’ amongst all the ‘hits-in-our-alternate-universe’ that we love just as much... as always it was a diverse bunch, taking in Marianne Faithfull, Germany’s Cobra Killer, Norway’s the Apricot and an absolute killer track from Adelaide’s 60’s outfit, the Southern Gentlemen, and LOTS more! Plus we had our new “Band of the Month”, namely the Dukes of Stratosphear, who of course were XTC’s very psychedelic alter-egos, and with their excellent box-set for us to plunder, you are in for some treats in the coming weeks!

Technicolour Dreaming

The psych-pop classic “We Love You” by the Rolling Stones, with Brian Jones on mellotron and Lennon & McCartney on backing vocals, began today’s edition of Technicolour Dreaming, while, with ‘The Seeker’ from their debut EP, the Sunnyboys, in their last appearance as our “band of the month”, finished it. In between, we played a cut from the soon-to-be-released debut album by the Laurels, recent releases from bands such as Thee American Revolution, Love Parade and Them Plasms, a song from a Brian Eno’s ‘Another Green World’, a track from Paul McCartney’s debut solo album featuring his first recorded duet with Linda, a version of “The Saint” theme by a UK band found on a compilation of instrumentals supposedly from behind ‘the Iron Curtain’ [?], a Ray Davies song given the Redd Kross treatment, the brilliantly-named ‘Krome Plated Yabby’ 1967 single from Australia’s own Wild Cherries and the Count Five’s ‘Psychotic Reaction’, plus much more... all brought to you once more by the Cat & the Brat on 3D Radio 93.7fm.....

Another show, another Dream... this week courtesy of 3D Radio compadre Bryan! Beginning with a blast of the psychedelic from the Asteroid Belt through some 80’s Melbourne psychobilly from the Corpse Grinders onto the black leather glam of classic Suzi Quatro and the whirling acid folk of Circulus, he played a mass of good music from all over, including a number of songs from various Adelaide bands and performers such as Kamikaze, Van Cleef and the mandolin strum of Madeline Hudson plus others from around the world, such as the Apricot from Norway, the UK’s Terry Edwards and Dark Ocean Colors from the USA, before finishing with the Zoot, our current “Band of the Month”... a great show.
