Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Obscured By...

There were once again 3 DOTS presenting the show, though not the usual line-up... this week the Cat & the Brat were joined by former 3D Radio announcer Mark P. who is back in Adelaide briefly; he has accumulated quite a few more obscurities and rarities since we last saw him and happily agreed to share a few of them with us all. Amongst them, we heard from the 1969 debut by US band Morgen, a single from the same year by the Factory from the UK, a 1973 song by Australia’s the Bakery, a 1968 track from Boston outfit Ultimate Spinach as well as one by Bunalim from 1970’s Turkey, plus a cut from 1969’s “Philosophy of the World” LP by legendary ”outsider music” sister-group the Shaggs. We also played our regular set of 1960’s Antipodean music, this week featuring performers such as the Escorts, the Harts, and Alison Durbin plus a b-side by Love Machine , a studio project featuring members of the Black Diamonds and the Groop produced by Pat Aulton. Tribute was paid to the late Davy Jones of the Monkees, who sadly passed away suddenly this week, by playing several rare works, including the original fuzz-drenched Candy Store Prophets version of ‘Valleri’ and a solo track which he wrote and produced. Throw in some Jacques Dutronc and David Axelrod and lots more and you have another episode of Obscured by... Thanks to Mark P. for joining in the fun... hopefully he’ll be back next time he’s in town!
