Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

We began this week’s show with the debut single by Television, which was released on their manager Terry Ork’s own ORK label in 1975, before rewinding to the 1960’s with songs from such luminaries as the Standells, the Masters Apprentices, the Twilights, the Velvet Underground and the Zakary Thaks, whose documentary we’ve included for your viewing edification. We dug out some vinyl including the classic 7” by Pineapples From The Dawn Of Time, a 1985 single from German band the Nirvana Devils, a Joe South cover by the Black Hollies plus a scuba favourite from the Revillos. To round it all out, there was some surf music from Canberra’s Space Party and psych from the Black Angels and DeWolff, before we finished the show on a glamorous note with our latest “Band of the Month”, the Barbarellatones..... all brought to you by your hosts, the Cat and the Brat.....

Obscured By...

All three ‘DOTS’ were in the studio for this week’s show, which stretched from a rare 1962 New Zealand LP by Peter Posa to a pre-release track from the debut album by English psych band Dewolff, due out soon. Along the way we heard some rare 60’s singles from the likes of 4th Street Exit, the Zakary Thaks and Melbourne’s Pink Finks, early recordings by the Dots (before they were Paul Kelly and...) plus the Human League, as well as a great version of a Roxy Music classic by ex-members of Christian Death. And finally, we have counted back to A as our ‘Letter of the Week’, thus ending yet another “regular segment”... ahh, what shall we do to replace it? Tune in next week to find out..... heh heh!
