Sitars, theremin and mellotron, backwards guitar, phasing and fuzz, fringes and mohawks, paisley, black, velvet and leather, feedback, bass and drone, beads, berets and safety-pins, Shindig! and Creem, 3 chord wonders, teenage symphonies and snarl, Rickenbacker, Farfisa and 4-track recorders... onstage at CBGB's, Max's Kansas City or the Trip, the Roundhouse, the 100 Club or the Crystal Ballroom, Catcher's, Big Daddy's or the Squatters Arms.... and the Cat and the Brat on 3D Radio!
Three D Radio announcer, MeganCat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat)lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula. Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs onThree D Radio 93.7fm, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station. Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming", watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage, surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

It seems that 2007 was a good year for Australian compilations, seeing the release of the excellent "Tomorrow is Today - A Tribute to the Australian Psychedelic Scene 1966-1970", as well as Off The Hip's "Burn Your Fingers on The Sun", both of which are well worth tracking down if you can find a copy. I featured tracks from both comps, as well as Ty Segall's new release "Emotional Mugger", a few classics from the late 60's, and some more recent Australian efforts, plus quite a few cover versions....

A diverse range of bands from round the world - Chile, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia and the Netherlands - found their way onto the Technicolour Dreamingplaylist this week, but then again, that’s nothing unusual! This was really a show of old favourites, both Harry’s and TheCat’s, and one of those particular favourites is Adelaide stalwarts, the MoltingVultures, who are playing one of their infrequent gigs at the Grace Emily this Saturday night 26th September, and bringing with them Melbourne’s rock’n’roll garage swamp-meisters Red Motors, - so don’t miss it!!

Due to an attack of the insidious “lurgy”, the
Cat & the Brat were unable to present this week’s edition of Technicolour Dreaming and so were most grateful
that fellow 3D-er, heather,
was able to fill-in at short notice... and a great show ensued! Keeping to the spirit of the show, but with her own twist, heather played classics from the likes of the Velvet Underground, Donovan
and Siouxsie and the Banshees, songs by
local bands such as King Daddy and the Molting Vultures as well as new tracks from Midnight Woolf and the
Jim Jones Revue... plus a plethora of TD faves,
not forgetting the last appearance of Ride Into The
Sun as “Band of the Month”.... cool stuff
heather!
