Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

Well, this is the 350th post on The Cat and The Brat blog, which has been going since January 2011, with early posts only consisting of a playlist, but gradually with video clips, and full release details being added along the way. Except for the short period when the Brat was unable to do the show, and until my return to radio after his passing, the Brat and I posted every week since that first attempt, with co-hosts Michael Hunter and Harry keeping things going when I've had to take a rare week off.

My silent current co-host, Harry, seems to have an uncanny knack of picking tracks for the second half of the show, that I was intending to play the following week, making my job all the trickier, but increasing your listening pleasure! It's always interesting to see what Harry will come up with (Harry doesn't like pronouncing French and Swedish track names, hence the silence)...but I digress... anyway, here is the playlist for this week's show - and enjoy your Easter break, if you get one!

Technicolour Dreaming

On this, the third-to-last show of 2014, our choice for “Band of the Week” was Denmark’s Halasan Bazar, who regular listeners will recognise from previous shows – we do play them a lot, but for good reason – just listen to their music and you’ll surely become a fan! We first discovered them though through their collaboration with France’s Tara King th. – another Cat & Brat fave – on the “8” album, released through their common  label, California’s Moon Glyph Records, and worked back from there to their earlier releases – great stuff! During the rest of the programme, we did play a few new releases, such as tracks from Ty Segall’s “$ingle$ 2” anthology and Los Trasgos Muertos’ new EP, but the bulk of the show featured some of our faves of this year, such as Balduin, les Limiñanas, the Chemistry Set and Southern Boutique, as well as a number of older releases which we discovered [or rediscovered] this year, such as Slight, the Rain Parade and Morgen. It’s been a great year for psychedelia and we look forward to the next two shows, when we’ll feature our picks for “best LP/single/band/etc of 2014” amongst all our other favourites of the year [and beyond!]! It should be fun, so tune in to 3D Radio and join us.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Another eclectic show which wandered from our opening song by July from their 1968 LP through to the1978 debut EP by Brisbane  legends the Riptides, onto a song put out by the Mysterion Art Factory by Idaho Nash featuring a faux-Dylan video clip, a brilliant pairing of Danish outfit Halasan Bazar with French popsters Tara King th. through to a 1985 version of “Lucifer Sam” by Adelaide band, the Spikes, with some Gene Clark, Beach House and Scott Walker added to the mix, amongst others. And we remained in Europe for our latest “Band of the Week” – specifically les Limiñanas who hail from Perpignan, France. We’ve been hailing their virtues for quite some time now, playing tracks from all three of their albums plus the occasional 7”single and so we were pleased to see a new ‘rarities’ anthology released by the excellent US label “Trouble In Mind”, and even happier when our own copy arrived in the mailbox! If you haven’t discovered the delights of les Limiñanas thus far [and it’s a mystery of the modern world as to why this band is not yet huge! ] this new compilation is as good as anywhere to start... you won’t regret it! So, until the next edition, this is the Cat and the Brat signing off.....
