Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

On this, the third-to-last show of 2014, our choice for “Band of the Week” was Denmark’s Halasan Bazar, who regular listeners will recognise from previous shows – we do play them a lot, but for good reason – just listen to their music and you’ll surely become a fan! We first discovered them though through their collaboration with France’s Tara King th. – another Cat & Brat fave – on the “8” album, released through their common  label, California’s Moon Glyph Records, and worked back from there to their earlier releases – great stuff! During the rest of the programme, we did play a few new releases, such as tracks from Ty Segall’s “$ingle$ 2” anthology and Los Trasgos Muertos’ new EP, but the bulk of the show featured some of our faves of this year, such as Balduin, les LimiƱanas, the Chemistry Set and Southern Boutique, as well as a number of older releases which we discovered [or rediscovered] this year, such as Slight, the Rain Parade and Morgen. It’s been a great year for psychedelia and we look forward to the next two shows, when we’ll feature our picks for “best LP/single/band/etc of 2014” amongst all our other favourites of the year [and beyond!]! It should be fun, so tune in to 3D Radio and join us.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Amongst the new releases featured this week on the show was the Junipers Euphonius Trolley EP”, their pop-psych side-project, and if the track we played, “My Budgerigar (is addicted to rasmalai)”, is any indication, we can only hope they pursue this direction further and put out a full album – we loved it!  Do check it out! Also featured were new tracks from the Horrors, the Roaring 420’s, Kikagaku Moyo and Octopus Syng, plus two French favourites, Sudden Death of Stars and Forever Pavot. Older music was not forgotten, of course, ranging from 60’s singles by Ola & the Janglers, the Dave Miller Set and Rhubarb Rhubarb, with a 70’s recording by the Left Banke, through to more recent tracks by the likes of Psychic Ills, Gold Paint and from 1990, the debut single by Cat & Brat faves, the Luck of Eden Hall. We also featured another track by Adelaide’s own Twilights and you’ll find Part 2 of the pilot of their ill-fated TV series attached for your viewing pleasure. So, until next week.....
