Technicolour Dreaming

Well, we’re back!! After last week’s well-earned break, which would not have been possible without the invaluable assistance of Mellowscream’s Bryan, who concocted a splendid show in true, idiosyncratic Technicolour Dreaming style, the Cat and the Brat are back in the saddle, so to speak. Upon our return there were a few treats waiting for us in the post box, including a single from Moscow, courtesy of Russian band Mystic Brew, promo copies of upcoming releases by the UK’s wonderful Fruits de Mer label, including their lavish boxset of flexi-discs, “Postcards From The Deep”, and a fabulous EP by the Chemistry Set, a bunch of new State Records releases including the latest LP from Groovy Uncle direct from our Mole in Kent in the UK and, last but not least, our eagerly anticipated “splatter vinyl” copy of Balduin’s new “All in a Dream” album, all the way from Switzerland. And there must be something in that Alpine air, because our “Band of the Week” was also Swiss – Borderline Symphony – and we played selections from their back catalogue ranging from 2012’s “Ragazze con Pistole” LP, their current “EP1” release, and a track from current recording sessions which may appear on the next album, due for an early 2015 release... Borderline Symphony make fine, noir-ish, widescreen music, so please, check them out! Finally, as a nod to Halloween, we finished up with “Lake of Dracula”, a track from a single by the Intelligence, featuring Kelley Stoltz – you should check out the cover art... cats in space! So, until next week.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Amongst the new releases featured this week on the show was the Junipers “Euphonius Trolley EP”, their pop-psych side-project, and if the track we played, “My Budgerigar (is addicted to rasmalai)”, is any indication, we can only hope they pursue this direction further and put out a full album – we loved it!  Do check it out! Also featured were new tracks from the Horrors, the Roaring 420’s, Kikagaku Moyo and Octopus Syng, plus two French favourites, Sudden Death of Stars and Forever Pavot. Older music was not forgotten, of course, ranging from 60’s singles by Ola & the Janglers, the Dave Miller Set and Rhubarb Rhubarb, with a 70’s recording by the Left Banke, through to more recent tracks by the likes of Psychic Ills, Gold Paint and from 1990, the debut single by Cat & Brat faves, the Luck of Eden Hall. Technicolour Dreaming

The focus this week was again the on-going vinyl revival with selections from a plethora of bands using that format, including Germany’s Vibravoid, Finland’s Octopus Syng and Spain’s Stay from the UK’s brilliant Fruits de Mer label catalogue, Jacco Gardner on the Trouble In Mind label, a rare split single by Kelley Stoltz and a 7”single re-issue by We The People, plus the new LP by the Asteroid #4 on 12” black 180gm vinyl... all very cool stuff!
