Technicolour Dreaming

The focus this week was again the on-going vinyl revival with selections from a plethora of bands using that format, including Germany’s Vibravoid, Finland’s Octopus Syng and Spain’s Stay from the UK’s brilliant Fruits de Mer label catalogue, Jacco Gardner on the Trouble In Mind label, a rare split single by Kelley Stoltz and a 7”single re-issue by We The People, plus the new LP by the Asteroid #4 on 12” black 180gm vinyl... all very cool stuff! We also featured new albums by Chile’s the Holydrug Couple, Crystal Stilts, Cate Le Bon and ex-Coral drummer Ian Skelly plus a track from the fabulous Night Beats’ latest offering, as well as a Barbarellatones song which was featured in a recent episode of TV’s “Sons of Anarchy” series, plus lots more.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Regular listeners to our shows will be aware that we are rather fond of boxsets and compilations of obscurities and this week we had a couple of new ones to plunder. We were excited to find a new addition to the wonderful ‘Electric Psychedelic Sitar Headswirlers’ series, now up to Volume Eleven, playing tracks from disparate locales such as Indonesia, the USA and Holland. We also got our hands on the new 5-CD boxset edition of the long-running ‘Electric Sound Show’ compilation LP series featuring obscure psychedelia found worldwide from the 1960’s (plus a few from the early 70’s) for our delectation! We only got it last week and have yet to hear it all, but played a few of the songs which have grabbed our attention so far, particularly tracks such as the very odd, lone single by Me Myself & Eye... very strange indeed! For our penultimate track, we played Adelaide’s own Fluffy as a ‘taster’ for 3D Radio’s annual TOP 101 which is being held on Monday 28^th January, with the Cat & the Brat hosting the 2-4pm slot... so tune in and hear the most played artists heard on 3D Radio in 2012, the bulk of whom are local Adelaide talent...

Technicolour Dreaming

There was quite an influx into the 3D library for us to plunder this week, with new releases from the likes of Place of Indigo, SMRTS and local outfit Sparkspitter, with the new CD from Fluffy actually hand-delivered to us during the show, meaning of course an instant spin for one of our favourite bands! Needless to say though, the past was not ignored, with tracks from the New York Dolls, the Byrds and the Masters Apprentices, plus a gem from the final Walker Brothers album. Finally, we debuted Brillig as our November “Band of the Month” by playing their very cool take on TV’s “Monkey” theme from 2003.....

Technicolour Dreaming

the Cat and the Brat began this week’s edition of Technicolour Dreaming with Nuvo Bloc, a band that received quite a bit of airplay when 3D Radio (under the moniker of 5MMM) first started broadcasting way back in 1979, and then dropped in a few bands such as Almost Numan and Fluffy who’ve had similar recognition more recently, before finishing the show with the winners of the TOP 101 for 2011, Ride Into The Sun. Along the way, we played some 70’s and 80’s favourites such as Roxy Music, the Associates (featuring the brilliant voice of Billy MacKenzie) and Big Black, as well as some new music from Dewolff and La Bastard, with a sing-a-long from the Rutles thrown in... mainly so we could put up the accompanying clip from their movie..... heh heh!
