Technicolour Dreaming

It was Bastille Day this week, so we played a set featuring a selection of French artists, from the 60’s to now, ranging from Philippe Nicaud to Blondi’s Salvation, to honour “La Révolution française” and, well, because we like French psychedelia and any excuse to play some more will be taken! Also today we premiered our new “Band of the Week” feature, where we will be playing a few songs from whoever has taken our fancy in the lead-up to the show... it could be an older band or, probably more often, a current band or artist who has grabbed our attention, such as our debut selection, Los Angeles’ Mystic Braves, whose new “Desert Island” album has hardly been off our stereo since it arrived! If you like catchy, reverb-rich garage-psych [with great 60’s organ washes!] we think you’ll agree that it’s a winner! Also on the show were new singles from TD fave Beaulieu Porch and the UK’s Invisible Ships, plus, from local heroes Brillig, a new 3-track single which at last includes their version of the classic “Bang Bang”, a show-stopper in their live set for many years but never before available on record – brilliant! And if you are in Adelaide, Brillig are launching it this Sunday, the 20^th of July, at the Grace Emily Hotel – the place to be this weekend! Of course there was much more, including cuts from the Triptides, Brazil’s Felipe Arcazas and the latest Brian Jonestown Massacre release, before finishing with a long track, a collaboration between MMOSS and Quilt, to bid you “adieu” until next week.....

Technicolour Dreaming

Again this week, we had a pleasant surprise awaiting us at our local general store/post office in the form of a package from State Records in the UK, containing the Thanes latest single plus the new self-titled Higher State album. On the local front, we also featured a track by the lovely LeighStarDust from “the Wedding EP” [which also features new husband Denni’s band Brillig] as well as a cut from the 12” vinyl LP by Tea, plus one from 60’s Adelaide legends, the Twilights, taken from the lavish CD reissue of a few years back which we found at Mr V Records here in Adelaide, which, with a few other remaining independent record shops including Clarity, Funhouse and Rev Records, are still reliable sources of cool, interesting music – there’s nothing quite like flicking through stacks of vinyl and CDs, holding & examining their covers while music whirls around you and engaging in discussions with other music lovers... and with the ongoing vinyl revival, there are still places like these to be sought out and found. But we digress... and with the end of the year rapidly approaching we thought we should begin adding selections from our numerous “favourite finds of 2013” into our playlists over the coming weeks.....

Technicolour Dreaming

We had our inaugural interview in the new 3D studios this week... and the esteemed interviewee was singer/guitarist Matt from Adelaide band Brillig. He brought us in a ‘hot off the presses’ copy of their soon-to-be-released new album “I Ain’t Ever Gonna See The Sea’ to give our listeners a sneak preview and to promote their upcoming shows at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. We also featured some of the new music that has appeared in our postbox recently, such as the swirling psych pop of the debut album by England’s Beaulieu Porch and the title track of the third album by Swedish band, the Amazing, before focusing on a selection of Australian and local 1960’s garage and psych. We played a track from the new early Bee Gees retrospective as well as bands such as the Purple Hearts, the Hergs and Procession and included a tribute to the late Kevin Peek by playing his classic ‘Then I Heard the Fire Sing’ by his band, the James Taylor Move. We came back to the 21^st century to finish with a couple of recent live recordings by Adelaide favourites Dieselwitch and Slingshot Dragster and a very cool Rolling Stones cover by the Gaye Blades on a Norton Records 7”single from 2007.....
