The new collection of "Antipodean" Nuggets CDs is still proving to be very plunderable, and so they began and concluded this week's Obscured By..., hosted by a solo Michael Hunter. In between was the expected mix of old and new / near and far - and the just a little odd. For the latter, look no further than Jonathan & Darlene Edwards (the less-talented alter egos of Jo Stafford & Paul Weston) deconstructing I Am Woman. Some fine Greek pop and a frenzied accordion-led Purple Haze by Svetlyo Zhilev added to the mix, along with a near-half hour long track from the new Neil Young with Crazy Horse CD! US singer/songwriter/cellist Ben Sollee, who will be a guest on the show in mid-January, showed what he's capable of - and the rest of the musical menu can be savoured below...

Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage, surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!

The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Obscured By...
At last, all 3 ‘DOTS’, Michael and Megan and Peter, were together again to present this week’s edition of “Obscured by...”! Needless to say, with the imput of all three hosts it was an even more eclectic show than ever, ranging from Abba songs done Ramones-style, a bit of Tiny Tim, the 60’s sunshine psych of the David and a sitar-drenched instrumental by famed session drummer Hal Blaine, the original composer’s demo of a Cindy Lauper hit, the first 7” by ‘lost’ UK post-punkers Scars through to the post-LSD ramblings of self-appointed guru Kit Ream and the musings of Mr Spock. There were a cool bunch of bands featuring this week’s letter I and our usual opening set of 60’s Australian recordings... all very, dare we say it, obscure!

Obscured By...
It was another voyage around the world of 60’s beat music this week on Obscured By..., piloted by Peter Brat, flying solo. From the Slaves in Switzerland to the Psychedelic Aliens of Ghana to Adelaide’s own Machine Gun Kelly’s Rejects, we highlighted an era where that beat was globally all-pervasive, but is only now actually available globally. Hence we got to hear from Iran’s psych legend Kourosh Yaghmaei’s 1973 LP, Chile’s Sacros [whose 1973 LP was banned by the Pinochet dictatorship], the Golden Earrings 1965 Dutch single, of which only 6 copies were pressed, a track from Lothar and the Handpeople’s 1968 LP in the US, and many more... We also played more recent songs by the likes of Lizard Train and Wooden Shjips, plus a great live version of an AC/DC classic by the inimitable Tiny Tim...
..... so here is the playlist....

Obscured By...
Well, it’s RADIOTHON time again, where you (the listeners) can do your bit to keep us on-air and playing all this fine, but largely forgotten or ignored, music. Whether you live here in Adelaide or in Addis Ababa, just go to www.threedradio.com and subscribe to this very unique all-volunteer music radio station. We come to you in various formats... locally on the fm band at 93.7, on digital and streaming on the internet... so tune in, and if you like what you hear, subscribe! This week’s ‘DOTS’ were Michael Hunter & Peter Brat and we played our favourite mix of rarities and obscurities, ranging from Adelaide outfits like the Twilights and Smokestack Lightning, to Tiny Tim, the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and the Dave Clark 5 (whose music is strangely VERY hard to get hold of). We also featured two of Australia’s greatest vocalists, Wendy Saddington (from her new CD reissue with lots of bonus stuff!) and Lynne Randell (from an American-release-only single). We raided the T sections of 3D Radio’s 70,000-plus CD and vinyl library for our ’letter of the week random-pick’ segment, again finding some forgotten gems in the process! And we finished with a song from the brilliant Korean guitarist, Shin Joong Hyun, who made great psych rock music and was persecuted by an authoritarian government in a similar way to America’s treatment of Roky Erikson, but with a better outcome... he’s one of only about half a dozen guitarists to have a ‘signature’ guitar made by Fender!... check him out on the ‘net!
