Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Obscured By...

At last, all 3 ‘DOTS’, Michael and Megan and Peter, were together again to present this week’s edition of “Obscured by...”! Needless to say, with the imput of all three hosts it was an even more eclectic show than ever, ranging from Abba songs done Ramones-style, a bit of Tiny Tim, the 60’s sunshine psych of the David and a sitar-drenched instrumental by famed session drummer Hal Blaine, the original composer’s demo of a Cindy Lauper hit, the first 7” by ‘lost’ UK post-punkers Scars through to the post-LSD ramblings of self-appointed guru Kit Ream and the musings of Mr Spock. There were a cool bunch of bands featuring this week’s letter I and our usual opening set of 60’s Australian recordings... all very, dare we say it, obscure!

Technicolour Dreaming

We played a lot of 60s garage and psych goodies this week as we often do, as well as some current coolies and more. Sad to hear of the passing of Poly Styrene from X-Ray Spex... Peter Brat was lucky enough to see them in 1978 at ‘the Roundhouse’ in London – a great show, which also featured [‘Dirk wears White Sox’-era] Adam & the Ants and the Adverts! We also decided on our May “Album of the Month”... and it’s “Meat the Zombeatles” by the Zombeatles! It’s the first album from “the Fab Gore”, the “undead pop combo” who are purveyors of the “No-Mercybeat Sound” and you can see a trailer for their new movie on youTube! Are they the Rutles of the 21st century? You decide! And of course we finished this week’s show with the MonkeesSong of the Week’...

...so here is the playlist...

the Frantics – Just for a While (Green Crystal Ties Volume 6 : US compilation)

the Blues Magoos – Ain’t got Nothin’ Yet (Kaleidoscope Compendium)

the Tolpuddle Martyrs – Time Will Come (It’s a Kave-In : Aust. comp.)

Johnny Young – Hold On (Surprises LP 1968 Aust. [recorded in UK])
