Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Which to go with, the old or the new? With so much great music to choose from, both from our own collection, and Three D Radio’s massive vinyl and CD library, we often find it hard to decide which songs will make the cut each week! Two hours just never seems to be enough, especially when there are so many great new bands we want to introduce to you, the listener, without sacrificing the old favourites, the obscure gems, and those that deserve to be known better. Technicolour Dreaming

It was another stylistic and regional meander this week. Beginning with a spot of late 70’s electronic rock from John Foxx’s Ultravox, Suicide and the original Human League, plus a couple of current Adelaide purveyors of similar ilk, Nekkro-Electro and Radio Spectacular, we then ventured into more psychedelic waters, featuring, amongst others, the Dolly Rocker Movement, Colour TV, the Deaths and a track from the wonderful  new Higher State album. Add some songs from a clutch of new releases including the Molting Vultures, the Hives and Major Tom & the Atoms plus a few 60’s singles from the likes of the Seeds before closing with the final appearance of the Lovetones as our ‘Band of the Month’ and there it is... another edition of  Technicolour Dreaming from the Cat & the Brat.....

Obscured By...

Beginning again with a clutch of 60’s Australian rarities, including the 1961 collaboration of Vicky Simms, a 13-year-old indigenous boy, with perennial instrumental band, the Joyboys, an unreleased recording by Procession and a great Tony Worsley single, this week’s presenters, the Cat and the Brat, ranged through time and place, vinyl and CD, to bring you the late 70’s/early 80’s electronic delights of Ultravox! and the Human League, some Finnish psychedelia from Eero Koivistoinen and a couple of tracks from the classic 1981 film “Urgh! A Music War”. We raided the extensive 3D Radio Library to pick random G selections for our regular “Letter of the Week” feature, which included the Welsh sunshine pop of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci and a children’s song by Professor Elliot Gnash, and ending this week’s episode with the Dandy Warhols take on the Cure....
