Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

We began the show this week with two tracks from Eric Burdon & the Animals 1967 album ‘Winds of Change’ and finished it with one from the new album by Australia’s Cloud Control, and so it was for the music we played in-between – the old and the new, here and overseas, soft and loud, fast blasts and slow drones – all the regular ingredients you’ve come to expect in the sounds of Technicolour Dreaming. From the b-side of Temples’ debut single to the Sons of Adam’s Arthur Lee-penned 1966 single a-side via Sula Bassana, Scott Walker, the Millennium and ex-Smallgoods songwriter Ben Mason’s latest psych-pop masterpiece and through to Beaulieu Porch, Mikal Cronin and the new Mynd Gardeners vinyl release, it was a varied journey through psychedelic realms and related states, which included a tribute to long-time Devo drummer Alan Myers who passed away recently, a1966 VOX radio ad, a track from the Gang of Four’s 1980 debut LP, a very electric version of a Serge Gainsbourg classic by Deep Sea Arcade and a strange 1970 b-side by Janie Jones, the London ‘identity’ immortalised by the Clash on their debut LP. So, business as usual here on 3D Radio with the Cat & the Brat.....

Technicolour Dreaming

A new year – a new show format. As mentioned in the previous few posts, the Cat & the Brat now do one show only – every Tuesday afternoon between 2 and 4pm here at 3D Radio 93.7fm in Adelaide, South Australia – so basically we’ve rolled the two old ones into a single streamlined spectacular (errrr, well, radio show – apologies for the hyperbole, but we ARE pretty happy about it!) containing the essences of the old in a new format, but keeping the ‘Technicolour Dreaming’ brand name – it does relate to what we play, after all!. Basically, we’re still playing our favourite psych, surf, garage, Krautrock, punk, pop etc etc from all over the place, some new, some old, some obscure, some better-known – you get the picture? And on the blog we’ll put up some clips to accompany the list that you can watch and perhaps take you further into related music – and don’t forget that we stream the show on the internet from the 3D website and iTunes Radio (under ‘eclectic’ – about right, eh?), so even if you live at the North Pole or the Sahara, you can work out the time difference to Adelaide and listen in! Anyway, enough chatter... here’s the playlist for the first show, appropriately on the 1st of January, 2013!!! Happy New Year!
