Technicolour Dreaming

We were joined on Technicolour Dreaming this week by Isomer’s David Tonkin (and his daughter Lara... at age 7, possibly our youngest interviewee yet!) who came in to promote his latest project, the debut CD by Bordel Militaire, a collaboration with a couple of Melbourne experimental /electronic /noise /punk musicians plus a few guests, including Boyd Rice. As well as playing a few songs from the album, David also ‘guest-hosted’, so scattered through the show were songs by such diverse artists as Scott Walker and Les Baxter through to Sabbath Assembly and Areyfu. Of course we also featured our regular psychedelic content, beginning with the Beatles and followed by the likes of a classic single by Hearts & Flowers, an early Bee Gees number [featuring the late Robin Gibb] and a song from the Higher State’s new album, as well as a dash of punk from the Slimeballs and early DouglasP band Crisis, plus lots more before we concluded with the Lovetones, our current “Band of the Month”.

Technicolour Dreaming

Lots of local and Australian music on this week’s show from bands such as the P90’s and Mondo Phase Band from Adelaide, and the likes of WitchHats and Lords of Gravity from around Australia, but with cuts from the rest of the world as well, from bands such as Thee Oh Sees, the Monkees and Ghost. There was an interview with a couple of members of the Baron to promote their CD launch and, of course, a track from our album of the month, DieselWitch Will Kill You... all presented by a solo Peter Brat.

Technicolour Dreaming

On this week’s show, we ranged from the debut 7” singles by mid-70’s New Yorkers, Patti Smith and Blondie (the original version of ‘X Offender’ and, in our opinion, superior to the better known album take!), to more recent tracks from San Francisco’s fantastic Thee Oh Sees, Toronto’s brilliant psych band, the Hoa Hoa’s, and Melbourne’s all-girl punk rockers, the Spazzys. We interviewed two members of Adelaide band Van Cleef, Chris and Mike, who also chose an eclectic set for us to play... including a song from the sound-track to Dario Argento’s 1982 movie, ‘Tenebre’, to a Roger Taylor-sung Queen track, to the Stooges. Naturally, we also played a number from the current ‘Album of the Month’ by Belles Will Ring... plus much more...

This week we played a tribute to the annual "LANEWAY FESTIVAL" which is about the only festival that we find has the type of new bands we like... this year we had the magnificent Beach House and Deerhunter, as well as Yeasayer, Warpaint, Bear In Heaven and more... still, we'd love a festival that had bands (like the Higher State or Clinic or Thee Attacks or Wooden Shjips) with a more psychedelic, garage sound to come here to 'lil ole Adelaide... ahhh, we can but dream!
