Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

Some old 60's Aussie favourites, a few new discoveries, and the usual suspects - this week's show had it all. I particularly liked the track by Sir Robin and the Longbowmen, who hail from Dresden in Germany - can't believe that I hadn't come across this band before! Somehow I also managed to miss the latest release from The Selfish Cales, which came out last year - more psych goodness from these natives of Torino, Italy. Speaking of which, I've also included (at the end of the blog) a groovy promo clip that I came across, of the 2014 Psych Out 25 Degrees festival in Italy - the things you find on YouTube. Enjoy!

Zoot - Turn Your Head (7" single (b-side to "Eleanor Rigby") 1970 Adelaide, Australia)

Technicolour Dreaming

Sometimes the direction an edition of Technicolour Dreaming takes is as much of a surprise for the announcers as for the listeners! One song suggests another, and before we know it, we’re on a rollercoaster ride of sound! This was such a week, with some of our favourites – Plasticland, Go-Go Sapien, Jacques Dutronc and the Bee Gees for instance - interspersed with oddities – such as a bizarre version Big Star’s Holocaust by Los Bichos – and brand, spanking new releases (from Buried Feather and the Love Parade). A couple of 1980 Adelaide vinyl treasures from Nuvo Bloc and the Noise rounded out a particularly satisfying show! Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did bringing it to you!

The Cat and the Brat are back... and thanks to 3D compadre Phil J for filling-in for us again at short notice last week! We devoted half the show to Australian bands this week, beginning with the wonderful Go Go Sapiens from Melbourne, before continuing with acts such as Ride Into The Sun, Thee Wylde Oscars and Love Parade, as well as new local band Summer Flake and fondly-remembered 80’s outfit, Toyland. Spreading out to the rest of the globe, we played new stuff from Gravenhurst and King Tuff, plus a song each from two of this week’s visitors to Adelaide, the Raveonettes and the Brian Jonestown Massacre... and of course there was a track from the Lovetones, our current ‘Band of the Month’! Technicolour Dreaming

Ahhhh... the Cat and the Brat were reunited on the airwaves this week after an enforced bunch of solo shows (two heads are always better than one!) resulting in a musical melange ranging from the neo-psych stylings of Prince Rama to  Josephine XV’s riposte to Napoleon XIV. We played two distinct 60’s bands called Kaleidoscope from two different continents, 80’s Adelaide rockabilly legends the Milky Bar Kids, the Mexican garage riot of Los Explosivos and was that an ode to decapitation by Dutch band Groep 1850? We also featured an interview with Melbourne psych-poppers Go Go Sapien prior to their Adelaide shows, including ‘behind-the-scenes’ anecdotes about the limited-release film which accompanies their new album, an homage to classic Australian schlock-horror B-movies... very groovy indeed! And we bid farewell to DieselWitch Will Kill You as our ‘Album of the Month’...
