Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

We began and ended the show this week with a couple of our favourite current bands, Gravenhurst from the UK and Moon Duo from the USA, as well as playing a pre-release copy of the new Ride Into The Sun single, taken from their upcoming mini-LP which, was produced in Melbourne by Alex Maas of the Black Angels – more news of that as it comes to hand! As always, we ventured far and wide for the programme, with tracks from Norway, Chile, the Netherlands and New Zealand amongst others plus some 60’s rarities such as the Tripsichord Music Box and the Attack. We also paid tribute to Jason Molina of Magnolia Electric Co. who passed away at a mere 39 years old – certainly an indictment of the American system of health care, or rather, the lack of it for people like musicians [though even the rich aren’t immune to its deficiencies – remember Andy Warhol being left to die neglected in a hospital corridor?] But we digress... Jason made some great music, and though it wasn’t exactly ‘psychedelic’, we felt he deserved tribute. On the lighter side, we played a version of the Woody Woodpecker song, a track from the bizarre ‘I Buried Paul: death rumour singlescompilation that was released last year and check out the Vagrants clip from the 1965 ‘Beach Party’ exploitation movie “Disk-o-Tek Holiday” – they don’t make them like that anymore! Throw in some Monkees, Toy, Donovan and other assorted goodies and it’s another edition of Technicolour Dreaming... brought to you by the Cat & the Brat on 3D Radio, Adelaide, South Australia......

Technicolour Dreaming

We devoted a chunk of this week’s show to a phone interview with one of our favourite bands... Melbourne’s dulcimer-driven Dandelion Wine, who are in town on June 16 as part of their ‘Light Streaming Down 10th Anniversary Tour’ commemorating the release of their first EP back in 2002. Amongst other things, we spoke to Nicholas about their German record label, Black Rain, the upcoming European tour (their 7th), favourite toy lobsters and, of course, dulcimers and other exotic string instruments. They are a great live act, so try and catch them next time they are in your locale. Speaking of great live performances, we also played a track from the lovely LeighStarDust who is making her first live appearance in over a year, supporting Dandelion Wine. During the rest of the show there were tracks from new releases by the likes of Gravenhurst and Suzi Chunk from the UK  and Aussie outfits, the Fabergettes and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, as well as 60’s gems by Kaleidoscope and Chris Farlowe, 80’s Australian singles by Salamander Jim (Tex Perkins et al) and the Sacred Cowboys, plus local surf tunes from Dieselwitch and GT Stringer, before we finished with our current “Band of the Month”, the Sunnyboys... all this, and more, brought to you by the Cat and the Brat on 3D Radio 93.7fm, Adelaide’s foremost eclectic music station.....
