Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

And after an absence of nearly 3 months, The Cat finally returns to the airwaves, though without husband and partner-in-music, Peter Brat, who tragically passed away in July. All those who knew The Brat, whether personally, or by association with Three D Radio’s “Technicolour Dreaming”, “Obscured by …”, or his musical career, will surely agree that his death is great loss to music of all kinds, and especially his particular love, anything that could remotely be construed as psychedelic

Hats off to Harry and Michael Hunter, who have been keeping the Technicolour Dreaming driver’s seat warm this past couple of months & doing a fine job- the show must go on!

Needless to say, the “comeback show” featured many Cat and Brat faves from round the world, including The Fast Camels, Jim Noir, Nick Nicely, Thee Oh Sees, Vibravoid and Dolly Rocker Movement from the past decade, Roxy Music and Brian Eno from the 70’s, and many more. Particularly exciting is the news that Moon Duo will finally be playing in Adelaide in November, after their disappointing cancellation as the support for John Spencer Blues Explosion a while back. Hopefully an interview with Riley and Sanae is in the works when they get here - fingers crossed !

So …. until next week, here is the playlist plus associated visuals..... including footage of The Pretty Things performing “SF Sorrow” for the first time in its entirety, at Abbey Road Studios in 1998.

Technicolour Dreaming

We decided to remain in continental Europe again for this edition’s “Band of the Week”, and the band we chose was Germany’s Vibravoid. This prolific psychedelic group have been together for a decade and are renowned for their extravagant light shows and multitudes of releases – have a look at their website for more details about this very cool band. Other features in the show included the new single by Perth’s High Learys, tracks from Quilt’s brilliant second and MGMT’s self-titled third albums plus Elephant Stone’s newest release, the excellent “Three Poisons” LP. Then there were a diverse bunch of songs from the past, ranging from the1966 ‘faux-psychedelia’ of session band the Deep, to the Nazz, featuring Todd Rundgren, and onto the Pretty Things’ 1969 French recordings with Philippe DeBarge, plus a modern take on 60’s icons Love by Doug Tuttle from a very cool Active Listener tribute compilation and lots more.....
