A Mexican Byrds cover, a Beatles cover from Ghana and Europop from the like of the Tee Set and Charlotte Walters. Also, Boomer & Travis, incl Michael Martin Murphey with a Quincy Jones country song. As part of an exploration of the E section of the Three D library, we found The Electric Chamber Orchestra - an Australian group of the 80s, as opposed to the 60s US group of the same name. Roy Wood and The Wombles combining their seasonal songs. An unreleased song by Noosha Fox (of Fox / SSS-Single Bed fame), along with German and NZ prog. The last Obscured By... of the year, hosted by Michael Hunter, was no less eclectic than any other. Just as it should be!

Sitars, theremin and mellotron, backwards guitar, phasing and fuzz, fringes and mohawks, paisley, black, velvet and leather, feedback, bass and drone, beads, berets and safety-pins, Shindig! and Creem, 3 chord wonders, teenage symphonies and snarl, Rickenbacker, Farfisa and 4-track recorders... onstage at CBGB's, Max's Kansas City or the Trip, the Roundhouse, the 100 Club or the Crystal Ballroom, Catcher's, Big Daddy's or the Squatters Arms.... and the Cat and the Brat on 3D Radio!
Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage, surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!

But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

For this penultimate show of the year, we also played a slew of Cat and Brat favourites including Black Cab, Black Mountain, the soon-to-be-touring Australia Thee Oh Sees and Sun Araw, and Canada’s Andrew Douglas Rothbard... and of course, another pick from our “Band of the Month”, 60’s hit makers Paul Revere and the Raiders...

Obscured By...
The main highlight of this particular Obscured By... was a chat and a couple of live to air songs by Yours Truly (Ken Stewart & David Robinson) - but a solo Michael Hunter also presented a brand new recording by the reformed 1960s Aztecs, a track by Mayfield's Mule featuring Andy Scott on guitar (pre-The Sweet) from an album only released in Uruguay, an unreleased Roaring Jack demo, Flaming Lips covering Radiohead as part of an exploration of rarities from the F section of the Three D library, some UK 60s psych and much more. (Was that the longest sentence ever?) And there was much rejoicing.

Technicolour Dreaming
Beginning with MontereyFestival-era Animals and ending with the Wooden Shjips, we spun a psych-skewed show this week, from Adelaide’s Ride Into The Sun to New Zealand’s Look Blue, Go Purple, from Black Cab to the obscure ‘On Sunset’ by the Decades from 1967 and ‘Into the Night Sky’ by the Hidden Masters... Throw in some LeighStarDust, an Eno classic and the Go-Betweens first single, with a track from our “Feature Band of the Month”, the sorely under-rated Paul Revere and the Raiders, plus lots more to diversify the sound... and there it was – this week’s edition of Technicolour Dreaming with the Cat and the Brat...
