Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

This show leaned more towards garage than psych for a little while, compliments of lots of new goodies to play - Adelaide's The Systemaddicts kicked things off with their latest album, "Broken Hearted on the Nullarbor", followed by a couple of new releases from State Records, by The Embrooks (UK) and The Missing Souls (France), and squeezed in the middle was a track from Juliette Seizure and the Tremor Dolls debut long-player, "Chewing Out Your Rhythm on My Bubblegum." Somehow I managed to play THREE Tyrnaround tracks, twice from their classic 12" EP, as well as a cover of the title-track, "Colour Your Mind" by Vibravoid! And I musn't forget a selection from Sidewalk Society's new 4-track 7" EP, which is one of Fruits De Mer Records latest crop of releases - with more to be featured next week. Some "soon-to-be" releases from Heaters, Elkhorn and Drakkar Nowhere rounded out the show: luckily this entry didn't take as long to put together as the last one! Enjoy!

Technicolour Dreaming

The third show of the year and we’re getting a feel for this ‘amalgamation of two shows into one’ thingee! There was current stuff from bands such as the Surf Zombies, Earth and Japandroids, a selection of 60’s music ranging from the Byrds to Svensk to the Brain [a pre-Giles, Giles & Fripp project by the Giles brothers], and a plethora of tracks in between from artists such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Wooden Shjips, Suede, Tyrnaround, Jennifer Gentle, Custard and T.Rex. Our feature this week was a 7”EP from the Fruits de Mer label called The League of Psychedelic Gentlemen, consisting of a track each by four such gentlemen, including nick nicely and Anton Barbeau... we’ll be playing the other two next week! We finished the show with the 1999 single by Jason Falkner which, in a just world, would have been a huge hit, but in this one was torpedoed by ‘major labelshenanigans... his back catalogue is well worth checking out as he writes and plays great pop music, in the classic sense of the word!
