Three D Radio announcer, Megan Cat (up until recently with her husband, the late Peter Brat) lives in "The BratHaus" a rural seaside home about 100km from Adelaide on South Australia's scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
Veteran musician Peter, and artist/musician Megan, were long-time DJs on Three D Radio 93.7fm
, Adelaide's eclectic independent music station.
Together Peter & Megan, known as "The Cat and The Brat" created this blog to allow listeners to review the playlists of their radio show, "Technicolour Dreaming" , watch clips of selected songs and simply join them in the enjoyment of their favourite music... psychedelia, 60's garage,
surf, punk/post-punk, pop, folk-rock, glam, 'Krautrock', goth, 80's electro... and much more!
But The Cat is carrying on the tradition, with guest co-presenters, and "Technicolour Dreaming" will continue in the same format, drawing from the huge "Cat & Brat" music collection, with the addition of new releases and reissues to keep things current. The Brat is hugely missed, but the show must go on, as he wanted...

Technicolour Dreaming

Little ol' Adelaide has quite a musical heritage, which is probably why it was formally recognised by UNESCO in 2015 as a designated "City of Music", and one of only 116 cities around the globe recognised for their musical culture (OK, 116 is actually quite a few...!) So ahead of next week's Radiothon, I played a broad selection of Adelaide bands ranging from the 1960's to 2003, with some more recent examples expected to surface on the show on the 23rd (ie tomorrow). The eagle-eyed amongst you will probably notice that some of the Adelaide video clips don't match the actual song played (as the clips don't exist - yet), but I've included them as an example of the type of music (for strictly historical reasons - of course). And stop the presses, next week will be an extra special, one-off, "Obscured by ... Technicolour" with the inimitable Mr Michael Hunter returning as co-host - expect some, shall we say, unusual music on the Radiothon show. Playlist and video clips? See below...

Technicolour Dreaming

It was a bit of an unusual show this week, with the Cat only present for the first hour and the Brat flying solo on the remainder - it's tricky living in the country and coming in each week, but when one of us needs to stay in town for 'medical experiments' [heh heh!] it gets downright complicated due to the single bus home which leaves from the city... and so on and so forth. Suffice to say, we managed to negotiate all the trials and tribulations. The Cat returned to the Cape and the Brat was successfully delivered into his world of pain in the hospital - said illness also being the reason for the lateness & briefness of this spiel. So here is the intro......   Our Band of the Week was the inimitable Roxy Music, a band who should need no introduction though sadly, probably do – unfortunately most people remember the “Avalon” period – so take a look at their film-clips (and it was film in those days!) for a reminder of this innovative group at their peak. Fittingly, early Roxy stalwart, Brian Eno, rounded off the show this week with a track from his debut solo album “Here Come The Warm Jets” replete with a suitably strange clip from 1976, posted a few years back....
