Technicolour Dreaming

Beginning and ending with some woozy psychedelia from the Lucid Dream and Wooden Shjips respectively, this Xmas Eve show continues our rundown of highlights & faves from 2013 and beyond including that great Space Agency single, the new Limiñanas LP, the latest Asteroid #4 opus, new finds such as Sudden Death of Stars, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Mystic Brew and the Dandelion alongside older faves like Mick Ronson, the Human Expression and the D-Coys, plus some cool compilations and reissues such as Psychedelica 5, Down Under Nuggets, the Bee Gees anthology and the Procol Harum & Strawberry Alarm Clock’s reissued 1^st albums. Technicolour Dreaming

Again this week, we had a pleasant surprise awaiting us at our local general store/post office in the form of a package from State Records in the UK, containing the Thanes latest single plus the new self-titled Higher State album. On the local front, we also featured a track by the lovely LeighStarDust from “the Wedding EP” [which also features new husband Denni’s band Brillig] as well as a cut from the 12” vinyl LP by Tea, plus one from 60’s Adelaide legends, the Twilights, taken from the lavish CD reissue of a few years back which we found at Mr V Records here in Adelaide, which, with a few other remaining independent record shops including Clarity, Funhouse and Rev Records, are still reliable sources of cool, interesting music – there’s nothing quite like flicking through stacks of vinyl and CDs, holding & examining their covers while music whirls around you and engaging in discussions with other music lovers... and with the ongoing vinyl revival, there are still places like these to be sought out and found. But we digress... and with the end of the year rapidly approaching we thought we should begin adding selections from our numerous “favourite finds of 2013” into our playlists over the coming weeks.....

Technicolour Dreaming

We’ve been asked from time to time where we find the music we bring to you each week on Technicolour Dreaming. Well, it comes from a wide range of sources - some from our own home vinyl, CD, tape and digital collection, some from the huge 3D Radio Library [90,000 items and growing!], local demos and pre-releases we are given, mp3 downloads by musicians around the world from sites such as Bandcamp or compilations on blogs such as ‘The Active Listener’, plus promo releases from independent record companies such as the UK’s Fruits de Mer and State Records, or Australia’s Walking Bird and Smashed Records, not forgetting being given their latest releases by artists such as Death In June, the Byzantines, Subtract-S and the Dunes when they come in to join us on the show. So you can see that with such diverse resources, there never seems to be enough time each week to play everything we want to... which just adds to the fun – there’s always more fine music out there to discover and to share.....
